Texas freezes don’t mess around. After the February 2021 winter storm, every homeowner in Burnet and Llano County learned the hard way just how fast pipes can freeze and burst. Here’s how to protect yourself before the next one hits.
Pipes most at risk are those in unheated spaces — under the house, in the attic, in exterior walls, and in garages. Outdoor hose bibs are also very vulnerable. These are the ones to focus on first.
If you turn on a faucet and nothing comes out, you likely have a frozen pipe. Do NOT use an open flame to thaw pipes. You can try a hair dryer, heating pad, or warm towels starting from the faucet end and working back toward the wall. If you can’t locate or safely thaw the frozen section — call a licensed plumber. Improper thawing can crack pipes and cause flooding once the ice melts.
Shut off your main water valve immediately. Then call us. Burst pipe repair requires a licensed plumber — the right repair with the right materials means it won’t happen again. We cover Burnet and Llano County including weekend emergencies.
Pro Tip from Mark
“After the 2021 freeze I did more pipe repairs in two weeks than I normally do in months. A little prep work in November can save you thousands in January. Happy to do a winterization check on your home — just call.”
